Children attending Ngamo Secondary School come from a number of villages, some a good 20 kilometre walk away! These children were previously either dropping out of school, or sleeping in classrooms and teacher cottages during the week…less than ideal for a conducive learning environment!
With partners in the UK and Canada, and with the support of Rotary International and friends in the USA, we have just put up two accommodation houses and one ablutions block for boarding students. We have provided bunk beds and mattresses as well as food and a matron for them, improving opportunities to learn.
In addition, term 2 kicks off at the local schools……and that has meant distributions of over 162,000 school lunches for 10 schools, distribution of teacher ration packs, provision of hundreds of textbooks to 7 primary schools, and over 160 school bursaries for children to attend both primary and secondary schools! Donors have supported school children with uniforms and satchels, school desks and chairs as well as a huge amount of stationary and supplies… and this academic year is looking much brighter already!
Updates soon on how the school year progresses and thank you to those who supported this project!
