Camp Life

Nehimba is situated on its own private concession in the northern area of the national park where many of Hwange’s wild residents enjoy wandering freely through the area. The best part of camp life is that it is completely flexible. You may choose to relax on your private balcony with an early morning cup of coffee or whittle away the last of the daylight hours on the main lodge deck with sundowners, watching the wildlife amble up for a drink at the waterhole—during the driest times of the year, elephants can come by the hundreds.

Meals are served on the open-air deck of the main lodge or in the bush and sundowners will be enjoyed at varying locations, as well—Nehimba Seeps, a fascinating open area of land where animals have dug for water for centuries is a standing favorite. A small swimming pool is great for a refreshing dip if you can get there before the pachyderms do!

The Tents

Nehimba Lodge boasts nine luxurious raised chalets under traditional thatch, unobtrusively positioned around a waterhole. Each chalet has its own en-suite slipper bath and adjoining outside shower.

The rooms are designed to be spacious, airy, intimate, and safe. Each chalet has its own private balcony that allows an un-obscured view of the waterhole and its thirsty visitors.

Of the nine rooms, we offer two family suites (one king and two ¾ beds), one large honeymoon suite (one king bed and day bed), four double rooms (with one king bed each), and two twin bedded rooms (two ¾ beds in each).

*Up to two children may share a tent with an adult. Children under the age of seven are only allowed by special arrangements to provide separate vehicles and private dining options.

Activities

Given Nehimba’s location right on the edge of the mopane woodlands of northern Hwange and the Kalahari sandveld of the west, the area offers the full spectrum and diversity of fauna that Hwange has to offer including elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and hyena—the elephant hunting lions of this area are famous and a special sight to see. This region is well watered and a welcoming host to large numbers of animals throughout the year and during the dry season (July-October) in particular.

Game drives are conducted in specially modified 4x4 vehicles designed to provide wildlife enthusiasts with ideal opportunities for photography. During drives and walking safaris, our expert guides enjoy sharing their extensive knowledge with you—be it while tracking a herd of elephants on foot at dawn or spending the afternoon overlooking the waterhole on the deck by the pool.

Activities include: Game drives, game walks, night drives, and visits to Nehimba Seeps and Mandavu Dam.
